Getting ready for a colour appointment can be stressful and can often leave you with plenty of questions. How do I prepare my curls before I arrive? What should I do on the day? How do I maintain my curl health and colour post appointment? Now you can relax. Follow our Trepadora colour tips and tricks below to make your appointment a breeze.
Patch test
New clients and those who have not had their curls coloured with us in the past six months will require a patch test at least 48 hours prior to their appointment. Visit the salon or request a free at-home test kit by emailing saloncare@trepadora.com. This is a legal requirement, we cannot fulfil your appointment without this.
Preparing your Curls
Two weeks before your appointment
Include ultra-deep treatments into your curl care routine on wash days. Apply the Quinoa Repair Deep Conditioner mixed with a pump of the Inca Radiance Smoothing Elixir onto your curls for at least five minutes. Apply the Miracle Maca Moisture Balm regularly to dry curls as a refresh or hydrator in between washes to boost the moisture in your curls.
Two days before your appointment
Cleanse your curls thoroughly to remove any product build-up with our Gojiberry Mint Reviving Hair Rinse. Do not cleanse on the day of your appointment to protect your scalp. Condition and detangle your curls with our Quinoa Repair Deep Conditioner.
Avoid any styling or holding products. Use our Miracle Maca Moisture Balm or Babassu Quench Leave-In Curl Primer as a leave-in treatment instead for your appointment. Consider braiding your hair the night before to keep it tangle free.
The Day of your Appointment
We colour your curls first before we cut them so we do not expect your curls to be defined when you come in for colour. It is more important to have your curls in the best possible condition and tangle free. As mentioned above, please try to avoid any heavy styling products.
Detangle your curls thoroughly (If you did not braid your curls the night before). Curls that are knotty or matted are not ready to be coloured (or cut) and can result in delays, detangling fees and stress. Keep your Trepadora experience zen by thoroughly detangling your curls before you arrive with our Miracle Maca Moisture Balm.
Avoid applying makeup near your hairline. We all strive for a perfectly blended foundation but this can lower the overall outcome of your colour and disrupt the coverage of those pesky greys!
Share your Inspiration
If you have any photos or magazine cut outs of the colour you are inspired by please show your curly stylist during your consultation.
After Care
Avoid washing your curls for 2-3 days after your appointment. This allows for your colour to settle. Post-colour curls need TLC to keep them healthy and happy so we recommend a deep conditioning treatment once a week but try to use lukewarm water rather than hot to help preserve your colour.
